Thanksgiving weekend

Many people are wondering what we did for Thanksgiving, so here is a glimpse. Haitians don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, for obvious reasons, but all the missionaries in the Les Cayes area got together for a traditional meal, even the Germans and Canadians joined in! It was a beautiful day, and it was the first Thanksgiving that we have ever eaten outside! Turkeys were flown in, thanks to Agape Flights, and we had most of the usual fixings, including mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, rolls, etc. As usual, there was an abundance of food. We spent time reflecting and sharing the blessings in our lives. We are so thankful to be surrounded by many friends, that are becoming our “family” here in Haiti.
These are the 100+ friends we spent thanksgiving with.

We started a new tradition on “Black Friday”. We had a fun, sun-filled day at Port Salut, which even included lobster for lunch! We returned in time for Friday volleyball, then had dinner at the Hotspot with the Gutweins.

As much as we are thankful for the friends that surround us here, we miss our family and friends, and the comforts of our “normal” Thanksgiving traditions. We are thankful for each of you, and are blessed to have you in our lives. We really enjoyed receiving pictures and videos from two different family gatherings. We love and miss each of you. Thank you for remembering us in prayer.

  1. Hey……..it looks to me like you’re having entirely too much fun there. I’m only joking, of course. I know you’re doing the Lord’s work and I’m proud of you for doing it. Wish I’d had the guts to do something like that when I was younger. I am just loving all your blogs. Thanks, and keep them coming. And have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and happy and prosperous New Year. We’re here in Florida now and will be until May, the Lord willing. Looking forward to seeing Marshie and Jim when they come around the first of the year. They’ll be about three hours away but we plan on getting together. Love ya’….Marna

    • Thank you so much, Marna! Good to hear from you. Hope you also have a Merry Christmas! Enjoy your winter in Florida! Make sure you keep your cute dogs away from those Alligators! Love you lots!
