Update

Thank you all so much for your prayers for our family, our fellow missionaries, and the Haitians through hurricane Matthew and the aftermath! We are overwhelmed not only by the destruction around us, but by God’s faithfulness!  We are so thankful to report that the buildings that are under our direct ministry/responsibility (our quadplex, the depot, and the guest house) didn’t sustain too much damage, only minor repairs and water clean up. That’s significant when you see the damage surrounding us!  We are so thankful for our solar power, as our compounds electric system is not even close to functioning!  We do not have water restored yet, but are able to fill buckets/jugs at the guest house, which has a safe water source.

This is the view from our back porch before Hurricane Matthew.

This is after, same exact place.

Here are a few more pics of our house after the hurricane.

This is the house right next to us. Fortunately, the missionaries who live here, were in a different house during the storm.

Before

After

We are encouraged, as we are starting to talk to the Haitians and hear stories how God protected them and is providing for their daily needs. The pictures speak more than I can, so here are some pics from our neighbors.  (I have hundreds of pics, but internet is too slow to post very many!)

I have a long list of both praises and requests, too long to share here.  Please join us in praising the Lord for physical protection from the storm and for sparing many lives.  Please pray that the hearts of the Haitians would be turned to the Lord, and many would come to know the Lord as their personal savior.  Pray that we could bring glory to God through all we do or say.  And 1 personal request would be for Scott, as he has the responsibility of the construction  department and has also been placed in the lead role for restoring power and water on the CL compound.  Pray for his physical safety, that God will give him strength and sustain him through the long days, and give  him restful nights.  Thanks again for your prayers, encouragement, and support.  Love,

  2. Thank you for the update! Have been praying for all of y’all and for the Haitian people. Know how devastating hurricanes can be and how long the clean up efforts take. Am sure it is 10 fold there without the modern conveniences we have here. Continued prayers!! And so thankful y’all are well!

  3. I can’t begin to imagine being where you are. The pics brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. So thankful for God’s protection for your family! I too will continue to pray for Scott’s safety, for a discerning Spirit for all of you and that most of all God would be glorified and that many Haitians will come to know Jesus as their Savior. Love you and so appreciate the update.

  6. Glad you are all safe!! As far as restoring the water and power you have the right person for that job. Scott is an amazing person and I’m sure he will have you back to normal in no time.

  7. Scott, Mandy and girls, We thank God for your protection and continue to pray for you with the many decisions and work you have ahead. Praying that many hearts will turn to Jesus through all of this. God bless you!

  8. Oh my!! What a mess your beautiful country is. It is hard to believe the beauty we saw a week ago is replaced by all of this destruction. Praising God you are all OK. We continue to pray for your safety and health as you slowly begin helping and restoring the life God has called you to. It is hard to imagine all that needs to be done. I just keep thinking of all the Haitians living in their small, poorly constructed homes and wondering where they are. Thinking especially of those dear souls at the nursing home we visited. Praying they still have shelter. Wondering to if Les was able to get to the farm to see how things are there. Praying for each of you there serving Him and all the Haitian people who have touched your lives. We love you all.

  9. Thank you, Mandy, for your update!! We have been thinking about and praying for you ALL. We are so thankful that you are safe. We pray a special blessing on Scott to have the strength both mentally and physically to do his monumental job!! May God surround you all with His protection in the aftermath of this horrible storm – stay healthy and safe as you do His work. My heart breaks for you and all of the Haitian people. We love you!!

  10. Thank you for this post. These pictures (and many others we’ve seen) tell a powerful story! I can hardly imagine what it was for you to go through this ordeal. So thankful for the safety of your family and all the other missionaries, but our hearts ache for all the less fortunate. We are also thankful for all the contact we’ve been able to have, and we pray for your physical and emotional safety and strength…and God’s guidance and blessings as you “spend and are spent” for hurting people. Love in Jesus, Marvin and Nancy
